Bagamoyo is rich in historical sights, including the old fort, once a trading post and later a colonial prison, as well as the Kaole ruins with mosques and tombs from the 13th century, and along Ocean Road there are important German colonial buildings such as the German boma, the Liku House administration building and the customs house (1895).
You can discover Bagamoyo by foot and on your own (do not forget to pay the old town’s entry fee at Antiquities Branch Office), but there are also plenty of tour guides offering a profound city tour.
