Old Moshi Cultural Tourism Enterpriseis located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, home to the Chagga people. The organization is part of the Tanzanian Association of Sustainable Tourism. They do not only offer a guided museum tour to the exhibition “Mangi Meli Remains”, but also do village and nature walks on foot. Discovering the colonial history and learning about Chagga chiefs and chiefdoms is mixed with a deep dive into local culture including visiting coffee farms, banana beer tasting or hiking to the popular waterfall Kwa Mambori.
Walking in the village is as captivating as visiting an Old Lutheran stone built church built in 1901 by Leipzig missionaries and the winding footpaths used centuries ago by local inhabitants. The colonial and missionary trails that still exist can also become an additional 100-kilometre tour, with 20 kilometres of easy walking along narrow edges each day, where visitors are treated to panorama after panorama of powerful and absolutely breathtaking views. They can stay overnight in mission centres or near colonial historical sites in various villages with lush banana groves under coffee plantations.
