
Tanga is a historical town with old buildings, monuments and a lot of Tanga culture. The Urithi Tanga Heritage Center which is located in the old German Boma offers an interesting exhibition about the precolonial and colonial past of the city. Guests have the possibility to get around the museum with a guide or even book a city tour which leads them to different historical places in town. The building has been renovated with support from the German Embassy and Tanga’s Sister City Eckernförde.
The Tanga Heritage Centre – URITHI is a non-profit NGO based in Tanga town with the mission to preserve and promote the heritage of Tanga as well as and to make sustainable use of the heritage for community development. The organization was founded in 1999 and has been operating ever since. Their main objective is to raise heritage awareness and stimulate community interest, to conserve the historical part of Tanga Town and to promote heritage tourism in Tanga region.
